Accurately measure internal misalignment. Measure the fit gap and bevel when preparing the end. Measure crown height of welds, fillet weld size, line drawn, socket welds. Press the gauge feet above the barrel. 2. Insert the feet (threads) into the root space or the two pieces of pipe to be installed. Turn the gauge 90 making sure to apply constant back pressure to the barrel. 3. Keep the gauge as square as possible with the fitting to get an accurate reading. Lock the retaining screw. Reverse the 90 turn and remove the gauge. You are now ready to read the increment opposite the red line. 4. When the red line lines up with the 1/32 increment line, you have good internal alignment and a good fit. Misalignment can be determined from the zero line by 1/16 inch increment marks.
